What is white balance?
White balance is a camera setting that establishes the true color of white and produces a baseline from which all other colors are measured.
Why is it important?
It means adjusting colours so that they look more natural and avoid unrealistic colour casts.
Why change it?
To help your camera determine the temperature of the light and which areas of your image are meant to be neutral white.
You should change it every time you change lighting conditions.
What do you need?
Your camera (in this instance, Canon 500D) and Calibrite Colourchecker Passport.
How to you set white balance in camera?
Position the Calibrite Colour Checker Passport so that no shadows or reflections are cast on the surface.
Use auto mode and manual focus.
Fill the viewfinder with the target and take a shot of the target.
Like the above.
Not like the below.
4. In camera, change your camera mode, example, ‘M’ for manual.
a. Select ‘Menu’ and select ‘Custom WB’.
b. Select the image you just took.
c. Select ‘Set’ and you’re done.
